Creating the add-on domain in cPanel will create the appropriate DNS Zone for your new domain. Therefore, you can manage the DNS of add-on domains as you manage the main domain's DNS. 

You can refer to the Knowledgebase article – How to manage DNS records of a domain in cPanel?

You only need to point the add-on domain to nameservers, the same as the primary domain.
