How to change SmarterMail URL for domains like "mail.domain.com"?

By default, SmarterMail webmail service is configured on port 9998 and accessible at URL http://IP_address:9998. This URL is little difficult to remember. Hence, customers prefer SmarterMail URL like; http://mail.domain.com, which is more meaningful and easy to remember.

Refer to the following steps to get SmarterMail URL like http://mail.domain.com for each domain. To accomplish this; we will go through following 2 steps.

 

  1. Add Mail's A record at DNS Zone of the domain
  2. At IIS, add Binding in SmarterMail website


Note: You can skip to Step #2 if domain's DNS zone already contains Mail's A record.


 

1) Add Mail's A record at DNS Zone of domain

  1. Login to WebsitePanel (Control Panel) → Select All Customers → Select Username under which the domain is hosted. You will see Hosting Space of the domain as follows.

    Select Domains Option from WebsitePanel

  2. Click on Domains → Select your desired domain and Click on Edit DNS Zone Records as follows.

    Click on Edit DNS Records Link

  3. Under DNS Zone, Add A record as follows:

    • Record type: A
    • Record Name: mail
    • IP: Your VPS IP address

      Add New "A" Record for mail

 

2) At IIS, add Binding in SmarterMail website

  1. Login to your VPS through Remote Desktop. Go to Start → Run, Type inetmgr and Hit Enter.

  2. In IIS manager, Navigate to SmarterMail website.

    In IIS Go to SmarterMail Website

  3. In Actions Pane; Select Binding and add new Binding with following details:

    • IP address: VPS IP address OR SmarterMail webmail service IP address
    • Port: 80
    • Hostname:  mail.yourdomain.com

      Set "mail.doaminanme.com" as Host Header Value in SmarterMail Website Binding

  4. Click OK.
