One of our customers faced the problem wherein images did not appear on some of their web pages. Upon further investigation, we concluded that some of the image URLs were not added to the hotlink protection feature of cPanel.
Hotlink is a cPanel functionality that prevents other websites from directly linking images on your website.
When someone has linked an image on your website, your bandwidth will be used every time someone browses your website. You can prevent bandwidth stealing by enabling Hotlink Protection from cPanel by following the steps listed below –
- Open cPanel and find Hotlink Protection.
- You will have to put the domain you want to protect under the URLs to allow access.
- Enter the extensions you want to block under the Block direct access for these extensions.
- Check the box for Allow direct requests; skip the Redirect request to this URL box, and click the Submit button.
