A VPS is hosted on a remote server, typically in a data center. It's completely independent of your local device (laptop, desktop, etc.). So:

You can disconnect, shut down, or restart your laptop; it will not affect your VPS.

The VPS will keep running 24/7 unless:

  • You manually shut it down via SSH, control panel (like Plesk, cPanel, etc.)
  • There's an issue with the hosting provider or server.

Example Scenario:

  • You’re connected to your VPS via SSH or Remote Desktop.
  • You close your laptop or shut it down.
  • The connection drops — but the VPS keeps running in the background.
  • When you turn your laptop back on, you can reconnect and pick up where you left off.

If you shut down or restart your PC, it does not affect the VPS. The VPS keeps running, but you will lose access to it until you reconnect.

If your PC loses internet, the VPS still continues running. You simply cannot reach it until your internet connection is restored.

If you close the RDP or SSH window, the VPS keeps running. The session ends, but any processes, websites, or applications inside the VPS will continue working unless you specifically stop them.

Conclusion:

Your VPS runs independently of your local computer. Shutting down, restarting, or losing internet on your PC will not stop the VPS — it will continue running in the data center. The only effect is that you temporarily lose access until you reconnect.
