A subdomain is a secondary domain that is part of a larger domain. It allows you to create separate sections within your website, each with its unique content and functionality. For example, if your main domain is accuweb.com, you could create subdomains like linux.accuweb.com, wordpress.accuweb.com, and domains.accuweb.com.
If you get a hosting plan with AccuWeb Hosting, you get the option to add subdomains.
Adding subdomains in Plesk and cPanel is a straightforward process.
Adding a subdomain to Plesk
- Log in to your Plesk control panel.
- Go to the "Domains" section and click on the domain you want to add a subdomain to.
- Click on the "Add Domain" button.
- Enter the desired subdomain name (e.g., blog) and click "OK".
- Plesk will create the subdomain and provide you with its DNS settings.
Adding a subdomain to cPanel
- Log in to your cPanel control panel.
- Go to the "Domains" section and click on the "Add-on Domains" icon.
- Enter the desired subdomain name (e.g., blog), the document root (where the subdomain's files will be located), and the subdomain's quota.
- Click "Add Domain".
- cPanel will create the subdomain and provide you with its DNS settings.
Notes
- You will need to update your DNS settings to point the subdomain to your server. This usually involves adding an A record or CNAME record to your DNS zone.
- The document root for your subdomain should be a separate folder within your main website's directory. This allows you to keep the content for each subdomain organized and separate.
- You can create as many subdomains as you need, but be aware that each subdomain will consume additional resources on your server.
