How to Setup POP3 Account in Mac Mail?

Following article will assist you to configure POP3 account in Mac Mail email client. Before you begin, you will need to create an email account through control panel if you have not already.

  1. Open Mac Mail. (If you are using Mac Mail for the first time, Setup Assistant will appear.)

  2. Click on File menu and select Add Account.

  3. In the opened window, Enter the following information.
    • Full Name :: Enter your first and last name. (Same name going to appear in From field of messages you send.)
    • Email Address :: Enter your full email address.
    • Password :: Enter the password for your email account.

  4. Click the Continue button and enter the following information:
    • Account Type :: Select POP from the drop-down menu.
    • Description :: Enter a descriptive name for your email account.
    • Incoming Mail Server :: Enter the Incoming Mail Server name.
    • User Name :: Enter your full email address.
    • Password :: Enter the password.

  5. Click the Continue button. When Incoming Mail Security window appears, do the following:
    • Check the Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) box.
    • In the Authentication drop-down menu, select Password.
    • Click the Continue button.


  6. At outgoing mail server, enter the following information: 
    • Description :: Enter a descriptive name for your mail account.
    • Outgoing Mail Server :: Enter the Outgoing Mail Server name.
    • Check the Use only this server box.
    • Check the Use Authentication box.
    • User Name :: Enter your full email address.
    • Password :: Enter the password.

  7. Click the Continue button. When an Outgoing Mail Security window appears, do the following:
    • Check the Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) box.
    • In the Authentication drop-down menu, select Password.
    • Click the Continue button. When POP3 account is setup, you would see an Account Summary window that summarizes your connections. Select Take account online then click Create.
