When connecting a domain to your website, setting the correct nameservers (NS) is essential. Nameservers tell the internet where to look for your website’s DNS records (such as A, MX, and CNAME records).
There are several valid nameserver options depending on how you want to manage your DNS. Below are all common configurations, when to use them, and what they mean.
1. Hosting Provider Nameservers (Recommended)
This is the most common and simplest option.
When to use:
Your website is hosted with us.
You want us to manage DNS from the hosting control panel(cPanel/Plesk)
You prefer the easiest setup with minimal manual changes
Nameserver information will be available in the login details email. You can also contact our support to obtain the nameservers information for your website. You can contact us via chat, or you can submit a ticket from your client area.
2. Custom Nameservers (Private / Branded NS)
Custom nameservers allow you to use branded nameservers based on your domain.
When to use:
You are a reseller or agency
You want white-label branding
You manage multiple hosting accounts
Example:
ns1.yourdomain.com Your-Server-IP
ns2.yourdomain.com Your-Server-IP
Requirements:
The custom nameservers must first be created at your domain registrar
They must point to valid IP addresses (usually your hosting server IPs)
3. Registrar Nameservers (Using Your Domain Registrar’s DNS)
Some users choose to keep DNS hosted at their domain registrar.
When to use:
You already manage DNS records at the registrar
You want DNS and domain management in one place
You are hosting email or services elsewhere
What to set:
Use the default nameservers provided by your registrar.
Important: You must manually add the required DNS record in the Domain DNS zone at your domain name registrar panel :
A record (pointing your domain to your hosting server IP)
MX records (for email)
Any additional DNS records needed
4. Cloudflare Nameservers (Using Cloudflare DNS & CDN)
Cloudflare provides DNS hosting with added security and performance features.
When to use:
You want DDoS protection, caching, and CDN
You want advanced DNS control and security
Your site receives high traffic or needs extra protection
What to set:
Cloudflare will assign nameservers such as:
lara.ns.cloudflare.com
Important:
Your DNS records must be managed inside the Cloudflare dashboard
Your hosting server IP must be added to Cloudflare DNS
After changing nameservers, DNS propagation may take up to 24–48 hours, though it often completes much sooner.
